This is the most hands-on of the electives. You do not answer questions about models, you build one, to a standard someone else could open, trust and review. The subject teaches the discipline that separates a working model from a spreadsheet only its author understands.

Present and explain your model to an identified stakeholder, and communicate the insights it produces.

The traps worth knowing before the assessment
These are the mistakes markers see most often in a built model. Structure and transparency earn the marks.
Mixing inputs into formulas. If a number can change, it is an input and it lives in one place, never hard-coded inside the maths.
Inconsistent row logic. A formula should read the same way across a row, so a reviewer can copy their eye along it and trust it.
Hard-coded numbers hiding in calculations. They are the single hardest error to find in a review, so keep them out from the start.
No checks. A model that cannot tell you when a balance does not balance will let an error reach the stakeholder.
Outputs that do new work. The summary a reader sees should pull from the calculations, not calculate anything itself.
A model only you can follow. The presentation marks reward a model a non-modeller can read, so build for the reviewer, not yourself.

Do I need advanced Excel?

Ethics and Business, or Ethics and Sustainability, is the prerequisite. The subject assumes some financial accounting, management accounting and information technology knowledge.
