What this subject is really about
The capstone pulls the whole program together. Instead of one technical area, it hands you a business and asks you to advise across reporting, tax, audit, risk and strategy at once, through the stages of a company's life.
The skill it tests is integration and judgement under time. The notes give you a repeatable method for reading a scenario and structuring an answer, so you are not meeting the integration for the first time in the exam room.
The five modules, and what each covers
The subject teaches a method, then applies it across the phases of a business. Here is the whole scope before you enrol.

The disciplines you'll integrate
The capstone does not add new technical content so much as ask you to combine what you already know, through one method.
Read the scenario, spot the issues across the disciplines, prioritise, check the ethics, then advise.
The reporting call inside a scenario, often the trigger for the rest.
The tax position and the audit or assurance angle that follow from it.
The risks the decision creates and the strategy it serves.
Break-even, runway, and the reminder that profit is not cash.
How it's assessed
The capstone, taken last once the cores are done. It is built around workshops and integrated case work rather than a single technical paper.
Case based
Every requirement combines technical, business and professional judgement on one scenario.
2.5 hours
A small number of deep, scenario-led questions worth 100 marks in total.
Collaborative
The subject runs on interactive workshops, so preparation and participation matter.
The traps worth knowing before the exam
These are the mistakes markers see most often in integrated answers. The links between disciplines are where the marks are.
Answering only the tax angle, or only the reporting angle, and missing that cash is often what decides the question.
Watching one number and not the clock. Every part has marks, so budget the time so each requirement gets its share.
Treating ethics as an add-on. A request to mislead is often dressed up as loyalty, and spotting that is part of the answer.
Solving the technical issue but never advising. The marks are in the recommendation, the reasons and the next steps.
Forgetting that profit is not cash. A profitable decision that drains the bank can still be the wrong one.
Listing issues without prioritising. Rank them by size, by risk, and by how soon they bite.
The kind of question you'll face
A short scenario from the practice exam, so you can see what integration looks like on paper.
Tidewater Ltd is a listed group that acquired a competitor during the year for more than the fair value of its net assets, and also has a foreign subsidiary that buys goods from the Australian parent. Advise on the issues across the disciplines.
The business combination and goodwill in reporting, the transfer pricing on the intra-group sales in tax, and the assurance and risk angles that follow. The skill is joining them, not answering one in isolation.
The 34 pages of worked solutions show how a strong integrated answer is built, from spotting the issues to a prioritised recommendation.
How to study it around a full-time job
The capstone is taken last, and rewards method over cramming. Here is a plan that fits it around work.
Learn the method
Module 1. Get the integrative method automatic, because it is the backbone of every answer.
Work the phases
Modules 2 to 4. Practise on scenarios from start-up to maturity, joining the disciplines each time.
Ethics and cash
Keep asking two questions of every scenario: where is the ethical issue, and what does this do to cash.
Do the prep
The subject runs on workshops, so come ready to contribute rather than catch up.
Timed integrated papers
Sit the paper under time, then read the worked solutions to see how the links are drawn.

Plain English, exam ready
The capstone rewritten to be read fast. Here is the idea that decides many questions, as it appears in the notes.
Profit is not cash
A profitable business can still run out of money. The capstone keeps asking what a decision does to cash, not just to the profit line, because cash is often what actually decides the recommendation.
The integrative method
- Read the scenario and the requirement
- Spot the issues across reporting, tax, assurance, risk, strategy
- Prioritise by size, by risk, and by how soon they bite
- Check the ethics against the five principles
- Advise: recommendation, reasons, next steps
One integrated paper, marked like the real thing
A small number of deep scenarios, each asking you to join the dots.
A 13-page companion
For the parts of the subject that are presented and discussed, not written.
Common questions
What makes the capstone different?
It does not test one subject. It hands you a business and asks you to advise across reporting, tax, audit, risk and strategy at once, under time.
Do I need the other subjects done first?
Yes. The capstone is taken last, once the technical cores are complete, because it assumes all of them.
How do I prepare for integration?
